A 100kWp grid-tied installation on a Midrand distribution warehouse offsets daytime operations and trims roughly R48,000 off the monthly account.
Spec stats:
| Label | Value |
|---|---|
| System size | 100kWp grid-tied |
| Inverters | 2 × 50kW Sungrow |
| Panels | 176 × 570W |
The Brief
The operator runs forklift charging, refrigeration and lighting across a single-shift daytime operation — an almost ideal match for solar generation. The requirement was a straightforward grid-tied system with no storage, focused purely on reducing the monthly account.
The Build
AfriSunTech mounted 176 panels across the warehouse roof using a non-penetrative rail system suited to the existing IBR sheeting, avoiding any compromise to the roof warranty. Two 50kW Sungrow inverters were installed in the plant room with monitoring tied into the client’s facilities dashboard. Work was scheduled around operating hours so that no trading time was lost, with cable pulls handled after shift.
The Result
The system covers the bulk of daytime consumption, cutting roughly R48,000 from the monthly electricity account. Because the load profile aligns so closely with production, almost none of the generation is exported. The client is now assessing battery storage as a second phase to cover the evening dispatch window.
