The Brief
Fourteen tenants — including a grocer, a pharmacy and two restaurants — were losing trading hours to every scheduled outage. The landlord needed a centre-wide solution that kept tills, refrigeration and lighting live without each tenant installing their own equipment.
The Build
AfriSunTech installed 60kWp of panels across the centre roof, feeding a hybrid system with 100kWh of lithium storage housed in a dedicated plant room. Essential circuits for each tenant were separated at the distribution board so that refrigeration, point-of-sale and lighting stay powered while non-critical loads such as air conditioning drop away during an outage. Metering was configured to allow the landlord to apportion consumption per unit.
The Result
The centre has not lost trading time to load-shedding since commissioning. Tenants report that foot traffic now increases during outages, as shoppers move to the one centre in the area still open. The landlord has used the system as a leasing advantage on two subsequent tenant renewals.
