The Brief
Guest experience was being undermined by outages affecting hot water, Wi-Fi and air conditioning. With an unreliable supply on that section of the municipal network, the owners wanted genuine independence rather than a backup arrangement.
The Build
AfriSunTech designed a 15kW hybrid system with 30kWh of lithium storage, sized against peak occupancy rather than average usage so that a full house in midsummer is comfortably covered. Heat pumps replaced two of the electric geysers to reduce the overnight load on the battery bank, and lighting throughout was converted to LED as part of the same scope. Panels were positioned to sit below the roof line and out of sight from the guest terrace.
The Result
The guesthouse now operates independently of the grid year-round. Air conditioning, hot water and Wi-Fi run continuously regardless of the surrounding network, and the property markets itself as fully solar-powered. Monitoring alerts flag any drop in performance so faults are addressed before guests notice them.
