| Panels | 22 × 585W Canadian Solar |
The Brief
The client wanted a system large enough to run the entire property — including two geysers, a heat pump and staff accommodation — without rationing usage during outages. Rising tariffs, rather than load-shedding alone, were the main driver.
The Build
AfriSunTech installed a 12kW Deye hybrid inverter with 20kWh of lithium storage and 22 Canadian Solar 585W panels split across two roof planes to balance morning and afternoon generation. Cabling was routed through existing conduit to keep the installation invisible from the garden side, which mattered to the client aesthetically. The heat pump and geysers were placed on timed circuits so they draw during peak production hours rather than off the battery at night.
The Result
The property now operates off-grid for the majority of the year, drawing from the municipal supply only during extended overcast periods in winter. Monthly electricity spend has dropped to a fraction of what it was, and the client has the headroom to add a second battery module later without replacing the inverter.
